No Pictures on this one!
While we don't fly that often, once or twice a year, it has always ticked me off that you can't get anywhere we want to go from Love Field in Dallas. Our most frequent out of state trips are to Sin City, Las Vegas.
When we lived in the Valley it was not a problem and we could fly Southwest all the way through but, living here in East Texas we cannot use Southwest unless we want to drive to Houston Hobby, 4.5 hours away, drive to Austin, 5 hours away or San Antonio which is almost 6 hours away.
To fly out of Tyler, we have to take American Eagle, routed through Dallas/Fort Worth or Continental, routed through Houston (which makes the flight a nightmare), or drive to D/FW which is on the other side of Dallas and traffic is a nighmare.
This is all brought about by the Wright Amendment which was passed many years ago. It's intention was to limit the service that could be provided by Love Field so that the new D/FW airport could get off to a good start. Well many years have passed and D/FW has grown to the point that they cannot build fast enough to keep up with the growth and service from Love Field in Dallas would in no way threaten D/FW. It might be a threat to the airlines individually, such as American but only in the context that they will have to compete fairly. An example: Southwest was recently given an exemption and allowed to fly directly from Love Field to Kansas City and St Louis. The day that they began these flights, American dropped it's walkup fare to Kansas City from $599.00 to $129.00, which matched Southwest's standard price. For all the people that D/FW can serve more convienently, what a savings?
In anycase, I am going to attempt to insert links on my page to "Free Love Field". This is a site dedicated to repealing the Wright Amendment and return fair, competitive pricing to airline travel for all of Texas.
If I fail to get this link inserted in a graphic form, here is a direct link. Please visit and read what they have to say and the faulty logic behind the Wright Amendment. www.setlovefree.com
